Game Day Tasks
SYSA Game Day Rosters Required! Coaches must provide referees with two printed copies of their game card/roster for each game. ONLY players and coaches listed on the roster are eligible to participate in the game. Instructions on printing your roster and entering your game score are available through the link below.
On field game day reminders. You must start your game and end your game on time. Game are often back to back so that everyone can play and are within permit constraints. If a game is running long, speak to the referee or coach for that game and ask them to finish up.
While the hope is to have every game covered by a referee, we recognize that doesn't happen each weekend. Please be prepared to ref your game if necessary. We recommend that each team referees half the game, or ask a team parent to help out.
Game Cancellation: In the event that your team has to cancel a game
Alert the opposing coach ASAP. (You can find the opposing team’s coach contact information on the game card on your team page in Otto.)

This should be submitted no later than 5:00pm the Wednesday before your game.
(This ensures that SYSA can notify the refs, so they can be reassigned to another match.
The clubs pay for the referees whether they work a game or not, if not cancelled on time)
Score Reporting
Teams must report your game scores no later than 10:00 am the Monday following your game. Only one team needs to enter the score per match. There are now two methods for reporting scores:
1. Log into SYSA OTTO → Teams → select your team
2. Locate appropriate game in the schedule
3. Mini menu (3 dots, top right) → Submit Game Report
4. Enter score + any notes → Save

Please Note Policy Update: Even though we require score reporting for U10, this is an internal record for team placement purposes. STANDINGS WILL BE TURNED OFF FOR THE U10 DIVISION.
Forfeits: Please report forfeits. The report should show a 1-0 score for the game. It is recommended that you use the field for the allowed game time to play even when the opposing team forfeits. The goal is to get the kids on the field playing soccer. You can arrange to share players or reduce numbers to match. Please use the field time to play!
RMA reminder for ALL rostered staff. All adults on the roster MUST be RMA cleared, with courses up to date and an approved WYS background check. SYSA registrars will begin removing coaches without approved status on September 22. Please check your status to ensure no disruption to your team. Any coaches removed are ineligible to participate in games or practices until the requirements are met. (NOTE: updating coach status in Otto is a manual task for the registrars. We will work through these to reflect your current status as quickly as we can.)

SYSA strongly discourages teams from running up the score. This is not a fun or positive experience for either team, particularly for the team on the receiving end. Winning by double digits does not display the sportsmanship we hope our coaches are modeling for their players nor the spirit of Recreational soccer. We ask that coaches employ strategies to avoid these game day scenarios.

Your printed game day roster is required to ensure that all players that take the field for your team should be there. It also indicates which adults can be on the team sideline during matches. Whether your game has an assigned referee or not, this ensures fair play. Please have your printed roster at EVERY GAME to avoid suggestions of ineligible players participating in matches. Please refer to Rule 4.12 - 4.14 in the SYSA Association Rules of Play, linked below, regarding ineligible players.

The published standings for the U10 age group have been removed, after discussion with leadership for all the clubs. Please continue to record your scores, as this will assist with division placement moving forward.
Reminder: no jewelry (even stud earrings). Please assist the referees by reinforcing this with your team families.
Recording a forfeit: should your game result in a forfeit, the score should be recorded as 1 - 0.

Please note the suggestions and requirements for a smooth game day experience:
Respect the clock: games should start on time and need to end on time. Our fields are in use all day, and games need to stay on track to ensure all teams get their allotted time. If your game starts late, you need to shorten the 2nd half to end on time. Encourage your players to arrive early enough to be checked in by the refs prior to the start time for your game. This maximizes your game time!
Respect the Technical Area: teams should be on the same side of the field with spectators on the opposite side. This allows coaches to coach and fans to cheer and support. Only adults and players on the roster should be in the technical area.
Respect the field: please make sure your players are not encroaching on the field of play while they are on the sideline. There should be space between the sideline and players/coaches. Also be mindful of games in play as your team warms up and/or gathers for a post-game chat.
